- Vineyard Source: The single-vineyard "Pianrosso" lot sits on medium-grain Eocene soils rich in marl, varying in altitude from 240 to 360 meters above sea level.
-
Winemaking: Fermentation occurs in temperature-controlled stainless steel and glass-lined concrete vats. It undergoes extensive aging in Slavonian oak barrels followed by refining bottle maturation.
- Aromas: A highly complex bouquet featuring crushed wild berries, ripe strawberries, dried cranberries, and dark cherries, intricately layered with blood orange oil, camphor, tobacco, star anise, and new leather.
- Palate: Serene and vertical on the palate. Polished, tightly woven, fine-grained tannins offer structural weight, beautifully balanced by a distinct salty minerality and bright, refreshing acidity.
- Finish: Delivers a remarkably long, energetic, and poised finish showing lingering nuances of balsamic, cedar, and a touch of savory earth.
98 points Luca Gardini: "Vineyard of the same name, located in the south-eastern quadrant of the appellation, vinified in stainless steel and glass cement tanks, aged in oak, notes of cornflower, then hints of rosemary and caper under salt, salty sip, with return of small fruits and officinal references. (Oct 2024)"
98 points James Suckling: "Intense, vibrant aromas of strawberries and raspberries, together with cola and flowery notes. Milk and mint nuances, too. Shows a lot of licorice elegance and blood-orange freshness on both the nose and palate with firm, velvety tannins and well-packed, brilliant acidity and a polished finish. Good aftertaste and amazing potential. Very classic. Drinkable now, but best from 2025. (9/25/24)"
95 points Kerin O'Keefe: "Bold and concentrated, the 2020 Pianrosso offers pronounced aromas of dark spice, camphor, dried herb, citrus and wild berry that mingle with new leather. On the powerfully built, savory palate, tightly woven, close-grained tannins envelop liquor-soaked cherry, orange peel, licorice and tobacco before closing on a note recalling almond liqueur. Fresh acidity keeps it lifted. Drink 2029–2036. (Nov 2024)"
