Diamond Creek Vineyards was founded on the philosophy that different soils impart distinct flavors in a wine. Planted in 1968 on light, fluffy, ashy soil, the Volcanic Hill Vineyard comprises approximately 8 acres of the total Diamond Creek estate. The 2019 growing season offered us superb conditions with parallels in quality to the 2018 vintage with one exception - lower than expected yields. A mild, wet spring gave promise that extended into a long summer with steady ripening. Harvest patiently followed with long hang times and unhurried phenolic ripeness. Selective picks began on the estate in early October followed by careful sorting and focused winemaking. Our winemaker Graham Wehmeier is calling 2019 a “classic vintage” and he is excited by the balance of concentration and purity of fruit in the wines. • Harvested October 8th to November 9th, 2019 • Aged 20 months in French oak • Blend: 76% Cabernet Sauvignon, 14% Merlot, 7% Malbec, 3% Petit Verdot • Deep, coaxing aromas of dark fruits, black tea, licorice, and scented earth. Textural and enveloping from entry, with a dark fruit profile of cassis, pomegranate, cacao, blackberry brioche, interlaced with blood orange, cedar, and coffee. Lustrous tannins and a lasting, storied finish.
