The Extraordinary 2002 Vintage
The year 2002 is widely regarded by wine critics as one of the greatest Champagne vintages of the modern era. A near-perfect growing season yielded grapes (particularly Chardonnay) with intense sugar levels and excellent ripeness. Dom Pérignon's current Chef de Cave, Vincent Chaperon, often summarizes the 2002 P2 as "radiant gold" because the exceptional ripeness of the fruit has evolved into a deeply luminous, texturally rich profile.

Tasting Notes & Character
While the original 2002 release was celebrated for its opulent fruitiness, the Plénitude 2 edition tames that sweetness, pushing it into a much more complex and cerebral dimension:
  • The Nose: Complex, warm, and shimmering. It opens with intense notes of candied citrus peel, saffron, and toasted brioche, accented by smoky flint, fresh coriander, and sweet spices.
  • The Palate: Viscous yet weightless. It displays a vibrant, creamy mousse carrying layers of baked yellow plum, dried apple, and savory umami notes.
  • The Finish: Remarkably long and structured, defined by a distinct saline minerality and a touch of liquorice or toasted malt bitterness that grips the palate.
Professional Ratings & Food Pairing
The wine has garnered immense critical acclaim, earning a spectacular 99 Points from Decanter and 98 Points from James Suckling. It is an exceptionally powerful gastronomic Champagne. Because of its broad, rich, and slightly phenolic build, it pairs exquisitely with elevated, savory dishes such as:
  • Grilled salmon or buttery pan-seared turbot
  • Rich shellfish like roasted lobster or crab legs
  • Complex, savory pairings featuring truffles or aged Comté cheese
Drinking Window & Storage
Its fresh acidity and structural integrity mean it is just entering its peak drinking window. It can be thoroughly enjoyed right now, but it possesses the immense structural stamina to be cellared safely through 2045 and beyond.
